At the beginning of the school year, an opportunity came our way that was too good to pass - The Romeo and Juliet Around the World Project. Viviana Lopez Larretchart, Primary Head at Colegio Newlands, in Buenos Aires, Argentina began the project with a passion for providing memorable learning opportunities to her kids. Since I have my students for four hours per week, I was concerned that we could not keep up with all the requirements; and it certainly was a productive struggle for me. However, with the collaborative efforts of the students, we finished. In the end, I can say that all my children received many rewards from the project. Below are some of the movies created for the project. They just began producing movies this school year; they are simply elementary students who love to try new things, play with ideas, and have fun. I hope you enjoy their tales.
My sixth grade students study marine science, so their ideas were filtered through the lens of the ocean. Along with a short study of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, they studied iambic pentameter, archetypes in literature, hero's journey, and parody.
